How to buy CVD diamonds wholesale

What to specify, what drives the price of CVD stones, when to buy parcels or certified stones, and how trade terms usually work.

What to specify

  • Shape and size: carat range per stone, or millimetre sizes for calibrated melee.
  • Colour and clarity: ranges, not single grades, give you more stock to choose from.
  • Report: IGI, GIA, or none for parcels.
  • As grown or treated: say if your customers require as-grown stones.
  • Quantity and timing: pieces or total carats, and the date you need them.

What drives the price

  • Size: price per carat rises with size, because large clean crystals are harder to grow.
  • Colour and clarity: top colours and clean stones cost more, as with any diamond.
  • Cut quality and shape: fancy shapes and excellent cut grades change yield and price.
  • Report: grading adds cost per stone, which matters more on smaller sizes.
  • Volume and terms: larger orders and advance payment usually earn better prices.

Parcels vs certified stones

Small stones are usually bought in parcels sorted by size, colour and clarity range, priced per carat. Larger stones are usually bought individually with a report, priced per stone or per carat. Many buyers combine both: certified centre stones and parcel melee.

Terms and shipping

Most exporters in India work on a quote, a proforma invoice and payment by bank wire to the company's own account. Goods ship through insured, secure logistics with an export declaration under HS heading 7104, and the invoice states that the stones are laboratory-grown.

Before a first order, run the 10 supplier checks, and start with a trial parcel.

Questions

What is the minimum order for CVD diamonds?

It depends on the supplier and the goods. Single certified stones can be bought one at a time; melee is usually sold by the parcel.

How are CVD diamonds priced?

Per carat for parcels and many certified stones, sometimes per stone for larger goods. Size, colour, clarity, cut, report and volume all affect the price.
